Symptoms that may be confused as [real] Vampirism

SYMPTOMS CHECKLIST FOR OTHER DISEASES:

“Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.” ~Carl Sagan

Vampirism is an extraordinary condition. The symptoms that one has when affected by it are rather extraordinary to find together. When you are a vampire and you go through your awakening the symptoms can be sometimes rather severe, and seem to be other illnesses. However those illnesses have a different set of symptoms than the ones that will be present, and if you are properly tested for this illnesses, you will come out negative.

Conversely, there are a few diseases out there that have symptoms that are easily confused for the symptoms of vampirism. Here are a few of them, and I’ll be adding more ailments as well as their symptoms later:

Dehydration

Symptoms of Dehydration

  • Dry mouth
  • Dry tongue
  • Fatigue
  • Dark colored urine
  • Infrequent urination
  • Reduced urine
  • Dry skin
  • Loose skin
  • Wrinkled skin
  • Rapid pulse
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Rapid breathing
  • Muscle cramps
  • Muscle weakness
  • Sunken eyes
  • Light-headedness
  • Confusion
  • Loss of consciousness
  • From Wrong Diagnosis.

Rickets

Signs and symptoms of rickets include:

  • Bone pain or tenderness
  • dental problems
  • muscle weakness (rickety myopathy or “floppy baby syndrome”)
  • increased tendency for fractures (easily broken bones), especially greenstick fractures
  • Skeletal deformity
  • Cranial, spinal, and pelvic deformities
  • Growth disturbance
  • Hypocalcaemia (low level of calcium in the blood), and
  • Tetany (uncontrolled muscle spasms all over the body).
  • Craniotabes (soft skull)
  • Costochondral swelling (aka “rickety rosary” or “rachitic rosary”)
  • Harrison’s groove
  • Double malleoli sign due to metaphyseal hyperplasia [1] An X-ray or radiograph of an advanced sufferer from rickets tends to present in a classic way: bow legs (outward curve of long bone of the legs) and a deformed chest. Changes in the skull also occur causing a distinctive “square headed” appearance. These deformities persist into adult life if not treated.
  • Long-term consequences include permanent bends or disfiguration of the long bones, and a curved back.

Iron Deficiency Anemia

Mild iron deficiency anemia may not cause noticeable symptoms. If anemia is severe, symptoms may include:

  • Weakness, fatigue, or lack of stamina.
  • Shortness of breath during exercise.
  • Headache.
  • Difficulty concentrating.
  • Irritability.
  • Dizziness.
  • Pale skin.
  • Craving substances that are not food (pica). In particular, a craving for ice can be a sign of iron deficiency anemia.
  • Other signs may include:
    • Rapid heartbeat.
    • Brittle fingernails and toenails.
    • Cracked lips.
    • Smooth, sore tongue.

Lead poisoning

The signs and symptoms of lead poisoning in children are nonspecific and may include:

  • Irritability
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss
  • Sluggishness
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Unusual pallor (paleness) from anemia
  • Learning difficulties
  • Signs and symptoms in adultsAlthough children are primarily at risk, lead poisoning is also dangerous to adults. Signs and symptoms of lead poisoning in adults may include:
    • Pain, numbness or tingling of the extremities
    • Muscular weakness
    • Headache
    • Abdominal pain
    • Memory loss
    • Mood disorders
    • Reduced sperm count, abnormal spermAlso, lead poisoning can lead to pika*, the urge to eat inedible or unusual objects, such as more lead paint chips, or perhaps blood.
  • Taken from MayoClinic.com.*not taken from Mayo Clinic
  • Hypoglycemia
  • The first set of symptoms are called neuro-genic (or sympathetic) because they relate to the nervous systems response to hypoglycemia. Patients may experience any of the following;
    • nervousness,
    • sweating,
    • intense hunger,
    • trembling,
    • weakness,
    • palpitations, and
    • often have trouble speaking.
  • If a person does not or cannot respond by eating something to raise blood glucose, the levels of glucose continue to drop. Somewhere in the 45 mg/dl range, most patients progress to neuro-glyco-penic ranges (the brain is not getting enough glucose). At this point, symptoms progress to confusion, drowsiness, changes in behavior, coma and seizure.

Diabetes

  • People who think they might have diabetes must visit a physician for diagnosis. They might have SOME or NONE of the following symptoms:
  • Frequent urination
  • Excessive thirst
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Extreme hunger
  • Sudden vision changes
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet
  • Feeling very tired much of the time
  • Very dry skin
  • Sores that are slow to heal
  • More infections than usual.
  • Nausea, vomiting, or stomach pains may accompany some of these symptoms in the abrupt onset of insulin-dependent diabetes, now called type 1 diabetes.
  • From The Centers of Disease Control website.

Lupus

  • Common signs of lupus are:
    • Red rash or color change on the face, often in the shape of a butterfly across the nose and cheeks
    • Painful or swollen joints
    • Unexplained fever
    • Chest pain with deep breathing
    • Swollen glands
    • Extreme fatigue (feeling tired all the time)
    • Unusual hair loss (mainly on the scalp)
    • Pale or purple fingers or toes from cold or stress
    • Sensitivity to the sun
    • Low blood count
    • Depression, trouble thinking, and/or memory problems
    • Other signs are mouth sores, unexplained seizures (convulsions), seeing things (hallucinations), repeated miscarriages, and unexplained kidney problems.
  • From Do I Have Lupus?

Porphyria

  • When heme production is faulty, porphyrins are overproduced and lend a reddish-purple color to urine.
  • The cutaneous porphyrias cause sun sensitivity, with blistering typically on the face, back of the hands, and other sun-exposed areas. The most common of these is porphyria cutanea tarda (PCT). Triggering factors are alcohol use, estrogen, iron, and liver disease, particularly hepatitis C.
  • The acute porphyrias typically cause abdominal pain and nausea. Some patients have personality changes and seizures at the outset. With time the illness can involve weakness in many different muscles.
  • Porphyria affects either the nervous system or the skin. When porphyria affects the nervous system, it can cause chest pain, abdominal pain, muscle cramps, weakness, hallucinations, seizures, purple-red-colored urine, or mental disorders like depression, anxiety, and paranoia. When porphyria affects the skin, blisters, itching, swelling, and sensitivity to the sun can result.
  • The list of signs and symptoms mentioned in various sources for Porphyria includes the 29 symptoms listed below:
    • Urine color changes
    • Darkened urine
    • Nerve complication symptoms
      • Chest pain
      • Abdominal pain
      • Muscle cramps
      • Muscle weakness

      • Depression
      • Anxiety
      • Paranoia
      • High blood pressure
      • Rapid pulse
      • Fever
    • Skin complication symptoms
      • Skin blisters

      • Hair growth abnormalities
      • Skin pigment changes
    • Gastrointestinal upset
      • Abdominal pain
      • Vomiting
      • Nausea
      • Constipation
  • The only way to be sure you have porphyria is through a series of tests that include:
    • Blood tests
    • Urine tests for porphyrins
    • Stool tests for porphyrins
  • From Wrong Diagnosis.

Xeroderma Pigmentosa

    • Symptoms:
    • A sunburn that does not heal following minimal sun exposure
    • Blistering following minimal sun exposure
    • Cutaneous telangiectasia [abnormal dilation of blood vessels near the surface of the skin]
    • Increasing irregular pigmentation of the skin
    • Crusting of the skin
    • Scaling of the skin
    • Oozing raw skin surface
    • Discomfort when exposed to bright light ( photophobia )
    • Neurologic changes are sometimes noted
  • From The University of Maryland Medical Center website.

Bipolar Disorder

  • Signs and symptoms of mania (or a manic episode) include:
    • Increased energy, activity, and restlessness
    • Excessively “high,” overly good, euphoric mood
    • Extreme irritability
    • Racing thoughts and talking very fast, jumping from one idea to another
    • Distractibility, can’t concentrate well
    • Little sleep needed
    • Unrealistic beliefs in one’s abilities and powers
    • Poor judgment
    • Spending sprees
    • A lasting period of behavior that is different from usual
    • Increased sexual drive
    • Abuse of drugs, particularly cocaine, alcohol, and sleeping medications
    • Provocative, intrusive, or aggressive behavior
    • Denial that anything is wrong
  • A manic episode is diagnosed if elevated mood occurs with three or more of the other symptoms most of the day, nearly every day, for 1 week or longer. If the mood is irritable, four additional symptoms must be present.
  • Signs and symptoms of depression (or a depressive episode) include:
    • Lasting sad, anxious, or empty mood
    • Feelings of hopelessness or pessimism
    • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or helplessness
    • Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed, including sex
    • Decreased energy, a feeling of fatigue or of being “slowed down”
    • Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions
    • Restlessness or irritability
    • Sleeping too much, or can’t sleep
    • Change in appetite and/or unintended weight loss or gain
    • Chronic pain or other persistent bodily symptoms that are not caused by physical illness or injury
    • Thoughts of death or suicide, or suicide attempts
  • A depressive episode is diagnosed if five or more of these symptoms last most of the day, nearly every day, for a period of 2 weeks or longer.
  • A mild to moderate level of mania is called hypomania. Hypomania may feel good to the person who experiences it and may even be associated with good functioning and enhanced productivity. Thus even when family and friends learn to recognize the mood swings as possible bipolar disorder, the person may deny that anything is wrong. Without proper treatment, however, hypomania can become severe mania in some people or can switch into depression.
  • Sometimes, severe episodes of mania or depression include symptoms of psychosis (or psychotic symptoms). Common psychotic symptoms are hallucinations (hearing, seeing, or otherwise sensing the presence of things not actually there) and delusions (false, strongly held beliefs not influenced by logical reasoning or explained by a person’s usual cultural concepts). Psychotic symptoms in bipolar disorder tend to reflect the extreme mood state at the time. For example, delusions of grandiosity, such as believing one is the President or has special powers or wealth, may occur during mania; delusions of guilt or worthlessness, such as believing that one is ruined and penniless or has committed some terrible crime, may appear during depression. People with bipolar disorder who have these symptoms are sometimes incorrectly diagnosed as having schizophrenia, another severe mental illness.
  • From The National Institute of Mental Health website.

Schizotypal Personality Disorder

  • Symptoms of schizotypal personality disorder include:
    • Incorrect interpretation of events, including feeling that external events have personal meaning
    • Peculiar thinking, beliefs or behavior
    • Belief in special powers, such as telepathy
    • Perceptual alterations, in some cases bodily illusions, including “phantom pains” or other distortions in the sense of touch
    • Idiosyncratic speech, such as loose or vague patterns of speaking or tendency to go off on tangents
    • Suspicious or paranoid ideas
    • Flat emotions or inappropriate emotional responses
    • Lack of close friends outside of the immediate family
    • Persistent and excessive social anxiety that doesn’t abate with time
  • Schizotypal personality disorder can easily be confused with schizophrenia, which is characterized by intense psychosis, a severe mental state characterized by a loss of contact with reality. While schizotypal personalities may experience brief psychotic episodes with delusions or hallucinations, they are not as pronounced, frequent or intense as in schizophrenia.
  • Both disorders, along with schizoid personality disorder, belong to what’s generally referred to as the “schizophrenic spectrum.” Schizotypal personality falls in the middle of the spectrum, with schizoid personality disorder on the milder end and schizophrenia on the more severe end.

VampirIC Otherkin

Vampiric Otherkin

An attempt at explaining/understanding those who claim they are NOT vampires, yet have a need to take/exhchange energy. (energy density?)

I had a friend once who tried to explain that he identfied as otherkin (Daimon; sp?), and needed energy, but was not a vampire.

How could this be, considering my understanding at the time, was that vampires need to take in energy. well, apparently while many vampires need to take in energy, not all who need to take in energy are vampires.

His explanation was a little difficult for me to understand, but i think i had it at the time, and has been even harder to explain to others..

well, after tossing it around in my head, i think i’ve come up with something..

Many otherkin claim to be creatures that may not have ever existed in this plane (the physical or whatever you want to call it). So their kin-type’s “home”/natural environment isn’t like this one.

One way i’ve found to look at it, Water and air (or just water, like the ocean, but i’ll get to that).

Keep in mind that we (living creatures) ALL need energy, but it’s vampires (and others apparently) who need to actively take in energy (or engage in an energy exchange), just as we all, also need oxygen.

Also understand that this is under the conditions that the individual claiming to need energy, but not to be a vampire, is also NOT undergoing pseudo/temporary-vampirism (being drained to the point that they’re metaphysical body expresses vampiric traits/needs in order to return to it’s healthy state).

Water is denser than air, it also contains oxygen, but as a human being (or any sort of creature) who can only get oxygen through air, you can not expect to go into the more dense water, and be able to breathe properly (water [H2O] IS like half oxygen isn’t it?). and on the flip side, a fish, who lives in the more dense water, can’t be expected to survive if brought into the less dense air (though there is oxygen in air).

Water and air are both fluid, like energy. both contain oxygen, and sometimes both contain each other (water has bubbles, but moreso air can contain water in the form of vapor, anyway-).

On the other hand, think of the depths of the ocean, the further down you go (the darker it gets), the denser it gets, though there’s more oxygen {http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxygen_minimum_zone}.

Creatures who live on the bottom of the ocean can not live so well up near the surface or out in the air as well as they do down below and creatures who live up above, or at the surface, would be crushed and suffocate due to the density of the water/oxygen molecules in the deeper levels.

Those who need to take in/exchange energy (due to environment), but don’t naturally need to, are not like vampires, they’re more like fish, or those who might live in denser areas of our energetic ‘ocean’ . each section of ocean is like a separate “plane” of existence.

Those who come from a more energy-rich environment are more used to the higher amounts of energy that they need (the energy/astral/metaphysical plane is COMPLETELY made of such energy, as opposed to the plane we live in here/now, which is more physical than energetic, though there is still energy everywhere).

Because of where they come from, and what their -bodies- [may] need, they are forced to take in more here in order to live comfortably. when naturally, they don’t have to..

My Awakening

This “blog” inspired by: http://youtu.be/kuSeQuptGBU – A Real Vampire on Awakening by Poorvamp.

My awakening wasn’t quite as quick in a single moment.. and apparently too long to post on YouTube XD

Real Vampirism

Not sure how old I was, but I was in middle school (between the ages of 11 and 14), my brother actually had a video game called Soul Reaver. This was my first, ever observed depiction of a vampire who both drank blood (while the main character was in the realm of the living) and “sucked souls” (while in the realm of the dead/ethreal) as it may be termed.. This both interested, and as a child who was frequently afraid of “what’s in the dark” without being able to describe or understand why or what, frightened me.

After an interesting dream, ( as briefly described here: https://www.facebook.com/notes/amelia-nightside/just-a-dream/168621253178277 ) The method I sought to combat my fear and uneasiness one insomniatic night was to learn. I got on the family computer and did a couple of web searches “Are vampires real?” and “Real Vampires” were what I remember searching for.

I clicked on the very first link at the top of the search list, which was an article by Inanna Arthen on Earthspirit.com. This article helped me a lot in combating my fears, but also opened my mind and eyes to some similarities I found. While I kind of scoffed at the idea of my being a vampire (simply because I had never had an interest in vampires of fiction, plus at this time, they were really only fiction to me still) I did find multiple people who shared similarities with the description I had found. Some were friends, some relatives, but the one most closely resembling the description was me, whether I wanted to admit it or not.

Around 13-14, I had my maternal and closest, most cherished grandmother pass away, a great aunt (paternal) (whom I wasn’t really in-the-know about) pass away and my father (protector, idol and best friend) was more or less ripped out of my life, at my hand, due to some personal demons of his being discovered. [1-2 years later my maternal grandfather also passed away. ]

At this time I had started becoming incredibly curious with spirituality and religion. My mother was looking for comfort and support in this way, and I tagged along out of sheer desire to learn. Everything was pretty well Christian based, but I was doing my own research on the side as well, asking as many questions as possible.

I was also beginning to stray a bit from mainstream ideals. I found myself on a web community for the “Gothic & Industrial lifestyles” in which I felt most at home. It wasn’t very long before I made a very close friend on that site. This friend introduced me, once again, to the world of Real Vampires via a webforum on this site.. Again, I didn’t think I would fit in at all , didn’t really care if I was one of them or not, but wanted to learn. My friend, during this time, also came out to me as a vampire, claimed he was empathic and made some subtle insinuations that this desire to learn wasn’t just innocent curiosity, and that I NEEDED to learn….

While I was socializing and learning a brother of mine and his small group of friends had begun dabbling in magicks and such. Some focused on basic energy manipulation, one went down the path of being a “dark” solitary witch (or so that’s how he made it out), they all dabbled a bit in “hunting” entities (such as evil spirits and the like. Purposely going into cemeteries and drawing out these entities). The “dark solitary witch” is the friend who, around this time began taking more of an interest in me and would sneak out of my brother’s room to come talk to me.

I never mentioned vampires to this guy, but discussed nearly everything else.

At this time I had been experiencing an increasing number of various paranormal(ish) phenomena. Anything from Dream travel, shared dreams, remote viewing, prophetic dreams, I perceived spirits and such entities more frequently and more intensely (sensing and seeing) .. It had gone on all my life as far as I can remember, but my awakening brought it on much stronger.

I also found myself experiencing incredible mood swings, with breakdowns (generally bouts of uncontrollable random crying, or an incredible urge to run, fly and rip out of my own skin). I eventually found the term Empathy, and upon further investigation realized that my “explosions” and mood swings were due to both this and the fact that I had not been controlling the energy within me. I was not actively feeding, nor was I doing anything to filter, shield or any such necessities of an empath or psychic/psionic/pranic/energy vampire.

This actually wound up with me seeing a number of professional psychologists/psychiatrist/counselors both in school and outside of, for a number of reasons (because of the family drama/trauma that had gone one, as well as my own instabilities mentally and emotionally – the paranormal experiences and mood swings – I wanted answers, and though I did not get them from the doctors, I felt it was a safe place to try).

Between my brother’s friend, my online friend and the information available to me, I was awakening to my abilities in energy manipulation and to my nature as a Vampire (whether I accepted the term or not)..

I practiced long-distance draws with a number of online-friends I’d made overtime and found that such alleviated my frequent headaches (had a migraine nearly every single day for a year when I was 13) and took the intensity off the mood swings. I began recognizing my auto-feeds (when I’d draw from a classroom, or particular classmate subconsciously) and found 1 classmate particularly interesting in that he would look right at me every once in a while during these draws (though it didn’t help that I was frantic in trying to stop it, and my body and facial language likely gave it away that I was uncomfortable) as if he was aware of what was happening..

It was suggested at some point during this time to try blood, which thankful for my boyfriend of the time, I was allowed to.

Therians & Otherkin

While in that online community, I was also introduced to the subject of Therians and Otherkin. Now, I have nearly always perceived phantom wings throughout my life, and had a very strong fondness and connection with wolves.

Though I did not understand it as anything more than mundane at the time, I expressed this “connection” as a young child (4-8 years old) through dreams (dream shifting), day dreams (fantasizing), role playing in games like “house” – instead of the pet dog, I was a cat or a protective wolf. I also created myself imaginary heros and characters such as Wonder Wolf (a wolf who could communicate telepathically with people, shape shift and fly) I often also pretended to be something of a gryphon having feline & wolf characteristics and wings. Whether separate entities or not, I’ve always felt they all were of the same whole, so expressing it all at once in some hybridized form just made sense to me.

– For the record my favorite animal(s) as a kid were numerous, though the wolf  (and felidae) always stayed in the back of my mind in some way, I personally claimed monkeys, pandas and horses, most frequently, as my favorite animals.-

Anyway, the community I was in had a number of self-identifying therians, to which I took with an open mind and a grain of salt. I loved the friends I made, regardless of what they thought they were. The subject itself I took in the same way, at first, that I did with Vampirism. I kept an open mind, as some things clicked, but at first didn’t think it would apply to me, so I just focused on what I knew, learning one thing at a time.

Around 16 or so is when I started entertaining the thought of possible Therianthropy and/or being otherkin. I began spreading out to other online communities besides the one I’d started on, I learned much more and slowly came to accept myself in this way as well.. I began recognizing more intense, and more frequent, phantom limbs, mental shifts and the like.

Conclusion as of this date.

I currently identify as (though feel my learning process, even 10 years later is not nearly finished) an Empath (though not needed to state I guess), Pranic/Energy/Psionic/Psychic Vampire. Polymorph(ic), Clado-feline & Timber wolf Therian/Otherkin.

The Vampirism is an aspect of my self as is the empathy. The therian/otherkin-ity are all separate creatures but of the same entity (me).

In a sense, I guess you could say I don’t know how or why I’ve come to be a vampire, Never really figured it out that far, though knowing that I am, at least in this life, I just am. I’m comfortable with myself and don’t NEED to know the how or why, just have to live with it as best I can.  Being therian/otherkin is more like having previous lives and those creatures are imprinted upon me as part of my identity, but I never felt, or remember, being such a hybridized form. The wolf, is a typical wolf, as is the Feline. The polymorph, I’m still trying to figure out if it’s truly an identity as an entity or if it was an aspect of me (Is it like the wolf and feline, or is it more like the empathy and vampirism).

My wings seem to be the most interesting, They are completely rooted in who/what I am, but I don’t know how or why. I don’t feel as if my wolf or feline forms have wings, but with the fact I have them, and often (though not always) experience them alongside my shifts and Hunger I wonder if they should.

.. I guess it’s as if, the wolf and feline are the past, they are still me but being human physically they are not at the front, they are a part of me, but as a memory, an impression. I’d love to be them again and feel either would be my “true” form, but the wings are much more strongly apparent. It’s very difficult to explain, I don’t understand it, which makes it that much more interesting…

Inspiration for The Awakening – The Dream That Came Before

This story, and many that I might allow you to read, came to me as a dream. Here I’m going to present to you the very first notes of the story, and my first description of this dream. Please keep in mind that it obviously needs a lot of work, this is a very rough draft and more along the lines of the “brainstorming” first step piece that is involved when creating a story.

I will edit this, and the previous entries over time while I attempt to expand upon and fine-tune the story. Please remember to stop by more than once in case something may have changed.

A young woman, appearing to be in her mid to late 20s with light brown, straight hair, hazel eyes and lean body is standing on a ledge, her heart racing at finding herself in such a situation. She’s just outside a very large office window. Co-workers inside trying to coax her back in, the concern in their voices nearly bringing herself to tears. The on-lookers below, though small in number aslo have an air of concern and fear, “don’t do it, it’s not worth it, we still love you” they seem to collectively say, though the exact words never audible.

She jumps off the small ledge. She lands on her feet -a slight pain enters her shins-, but is recoiled backwards and lands laying on her back on the sidewalk pavement.

She wakes a bit some time after. She’s being carried by a young man with sleek, near-black hair, silver eyes and lightly tanned skin. He’s wearing a dark-grey or faded-black band-promoting sweatshirt with a symbol like a jagged or roughly drawn ankh. His name is Sy; short for Sylas and he’s been a long-time friend of hers for many years. Some could even say, they’ve been good friends for ever. He’s rushing through an apartment building, looking for the vacant-looking front doors. He finds one, apartment 6. He opens the door and sees what appears to be a closet-like room and what looks to be a young boy on the top bunk of a bunkbed. There are dark greenish gray vine-like ropes growing in a swirled pattern up the bed posts. He has no time to make sense of the image as the apartment door just next to it, apartment 5 opens and a man with dark hair that forms a U shape around the bald top of his head emerges wearing an apron and waving a rolling pin. “That’s my son, you stay away from him”. So Sylas closes the door and continues to search for a place to stay. He goes back outside to the front of the apartment complex and takes a look at the door buzzer list. There’s only one empty, so he moves on to another building.

He stands in front of the building, There seems to be a deli/butcher shop and above is the apartments. He takes a look at the list; Apartments 4 & 6 seem to be empty. He enters the building and climbs a couple the staircases that are squared at the doorways, staircase to the second floor (actually the third if you count the shop below) and finds that the apartments to this building are set up perfectly with the even numbers right beside each other and the odd on the other side of the crevace.

(The stairs look kind of like a fire escape stair/ladder but line both sides [for example, stairs are on the north and south sides of the inside of the building, while the apartment doors on a squared platform (with banisters and a whole in the center) are on the east and west sides of hte building] lead up to sort of ledges where if you look down, you can see to the bottom floor, in the dream it appeared much higher than 2 floors, but considering the apartment numbers, i think realistically, it should only be the second floor).

He tests apartment door 4, he’s lucky, it’s unlocked. -and seems to already be a mostly furnished cross between a studio and one-bedroom. The biggest rooms being a t.v./entertainment section and a bedroom with a nearly closet-sized bathroom and a tiny hole-in-the-wall nook of a kitchen. He carries her into the apartment and sets her on the bed. He then goes over to the next apartment, #6 also seems to be unlocked. He goes outside and with a marker, very neatly prints names in the buzzer list.

(Aparently these landlords don’t check on their buildings/tenants very often, and if they do, they must not remember which ones do or do not actually have tenents. Though rent was mentioned in the dream later on.. it’s like they start by squatting or something, then later start making payments to the landlord.. who somehow never catches on that they at least started here illegally =/, told you it can be weird in some parts).

She finally wakes, and he seems to have something brewing on the stove, she can smell it. He enters the room again, “Hey, sleeping beauty. How ya doin’, Christal?” She feels stiff, Hungry and soar. She looks at him and lets out a bit of a groan. He hands her a bowl of warm, red-colored liquid. She stares at it with a look of “what is this slop?”.

“it’s blood”, Sy respons, “well and a little tomatoe juice. I got it from the butcher downstairs. I went in to apply for a job, the late afternoon to evening shift, and while i was there I asked if he had any leftover drippings from his meat. Told him that my family back home was very ethnic and loved to use blood in various recipes. He said that i was lucky, he usually tosses the blood on Wednesdays, so today being Tuesday was cutting it close.” She takes a sip, it’s warm and while it tastes a bit extra-irony and tomatoe-y it isn’t totally bad.

“Back home?” she questions.

“I haven’t a clue, i just said it and he believed me, Can you believe it?” Sy continues in a almost a minor rant, “These MODERN humans don’t know a great thing when they see it. Throwing away blood, it’s crazy. It’s better for you than a lot of this other processed crap they serve nowadays.  He says he’ll hold onto the blood for me every week, no matter how much, and let me have it if i stop in every week. I offered, if i get the job, to take a small cut in pay in exchange for the blood. If this works out, it’ll be perfect!”

“Sy, you know i don’t care much for blood.. You sure it’s not a waste?”

“oh i know, but you can’t be draining me all the time. I CAN feel it and I do have my own needs too, girlie.” he laughs and  takes care of her empty bowl. “This’ll have to work for the now, until we can figure something else out” he says while in the little nook of a kitchen.

He then returns to the room and she allows him to take off her rouge-colored t-shirt to inspect the bandages.

“I really don’t understand how, but you managed to pretty badly bruise most of your ribcage without breaking a single bone. Why were you up there?”

“You took me to a doctor?” Chris questions with some concern in her voice.

“No, I checked you out. You know i can’t pass up a chance to see you naked,” he smirks. She looks at him scoldingly “Well I’m glad you don’t have to spend money we don’t have but i reallly don’t think your doctor’s training and methods are still as good nowadays. How long ago was it?”He sighs, “It was at least four decades ago that they canned me, if you have to be reminded.  I’ve got much longer and much more than that under my belt of experetise and I’ve been keeping up with the medical journals and books and stuff from the library and the free internet around town. Your meat-body is safe with me.” He waits for her to answer his other queston. “Why did you do it Christal?”

“I’m honestly not sure, Sy,” she pauses “One moment i’m in Mr. Bricks’ office, the next i’m outside, on the ledge looking for a way out.”

“A way out of what?”

“I don’t know, I just wanted out.”

The sun seems nearly right in front of them in the sky (west facing window?). It must be 5 or 6 in the afternoon. Evening is just starting to call to them.

Sy closes the shade and kisses Chris on the forehead while she rests then leaves.

Morning comes and a knock comes to the door of apartment 4. Christal answers to find a strong-looking young man, jaw-length, bleached-yellowish hair with black tips and dark blue eyes. He’s wearing a fitted black t-shirt and denim jeans.

“Can i help you?” She says.

He reaches out his hand and takes hers in greeting. “My name is Taylor. I’m not sure if you can help me, but i’d like to help you.” There’s a look in his eyes that she recongizes. “Here, come inside” she says and ushers him in.

“How did you find me” She askes.

“Pretty easy” he replies “You’re not very good at being descrete. You were on one of the local news channels with your little stunt. I found i a little out of the ordinary to see your friend scoop up your unconscious body  and run off. I figured there was something odd about the two of you, considering your not being dead or seriously crippled. Anyway, like attracts like, my dear. I wanted to find you and here i am.”

Sy enters Chris’ little apartment his defenses immediately come up upon seeing the stranger sitting with Chris. “Who the hell are you?” he demands.

Chris stands up a swiftly and flinches at the quick tinge of pain it causes her mid-section, “Sylas, this is Taylor, he wants to help us.”

“Help us with what? What in the world could we possibly need help with?” Sylas speaks quickly and again in a loud, demanding tone.

“Survival..” answers Taylor.

“We’re fine, We’re alive and We’ve been managing for many years without you. Get out, Taylor.” Sylas says and shepards Taylor out by placing his body near to his.

“Well that’s a bit rude, don’tcha think?” Taylor mocks and slowly walks toward the exit.

“I don’t care, You’re not welcome here. Get out!” Sy shoves Taylor out slamming the door and locking it behind him.

“What the hell was that for?” Chris says, “he was only going to help us”

Sylas ushers Chris onto the couch and tries to explain his views. “We don’t need help, Chris. He wasn’t going to help us, it’s hard enough providing for the two of us and we’ve been doing it for decades, he could only make it worse. He was going to take from us. Like a leech.”

Chris sighs, “Take from us, or take from you?” She says. “I wasn’t in danger there. That came off as more an ownership thing coming from your end. Was it?”

“Me? You think i’m being territorial?” he shakes his head “With what territory, Chris? We have nothing”.

We  Sy. We. That’s exactly what you were protecting. You’re so comfortable with just us, that you aren’t willing to see what anyone else could offer.”  She goes back into the bedroom “We don’t need anyone else!” She mocks.

He leaves.

The Awakening – Preface(?)

My name’s Christal.

I owe all I know to my grandmother who died when I was 16. No one really knows the truth about how or why she died. At that time the supposed experts had started coming out with their tests and experiments for volunteer vampires.  I’ve always wondered if she volunteered for the experiments in attempts to follow and help her dream, her community’s dream, of understanding and equality to come true. I’ve always wondered if that’s how she died.

My grandmother began teaching me about vampires as soon as I was old enough to read. She had saved every resource and every tidbit of information she’d ever had onto her computer and filed away in her safe.

I began my awakening at 13. I had always wondered if she knew of my latency, if she knew I was a vampire. I suspect she wanted me to be prepared, whether I awakened as a vampire or not, an awakening had begun during her time and I think she was afraid that vampires would not be accepted into society without some sort of fight.

If she only knew then, how bad it would become..

The Awakening – Description

The Awakening is an up-coming story of mine. Also intended as an up-coming post here. This is a rough draft of the description (obviously needs work and not “official” yet).

In a not-so-distant future the world has finally discovered the truth about vampires. A genetic mutation in people has been discovered and linked to those professing vampiric need. As a result,  mass hysteria and world-wide panic has set in.

Our story follows Christal, a young woman hoping to follow her grandmother’s dream of acceptance in a world where people like her have been forced back into the proverbial underground to escape acts of hate, prejudice and intolerance.
